Today, Friday, August 9, 2024, the Nation Building Movement followed the activities of the “Local Administration Forum in the Recovery Phase” to discuss the administrative and financial problems related to activating the local administration system as the possible local development management system today.

This was done within a dialogue event in which a group of members of the executive offices in the local councils, experts, researchers, media professionals, activists concerned with local administration, and various stakeholders who participated in the movement’s previous efforts with the aim to shape policies related to the administrative and financial pillars.

The first day’s dialogue revolved around the reality of the local administration system in the localities and the councils’ ability to innovate, participate and adapt creatively to the various variables and procedures followed, with the aim of developing their role by allowing the review and amendment of the powers of the local councils.

The possibility of sharing programmes, projects, resources and expertise between localities was discussed, whether through joint management or the establishment of joint committees of two or more councils.

The workshop also discussed the principle of financial solvency, which is what ensures that local councils have sufficient resources (natural resources, underground wealth, state property) to fulfill their obligations and exercise their development and service role, and the effectiveness of the performance of local councils to exercise the role of development planning and sound management of the development process, and the necessary rehabilitation and training programs to improve the performance of councils, in addition to their accountability in a way that ensures transparency in decision-making, and the bodies officially authorized to follow up on their work and the role of local media and local civil organizations and entities in following up on their work.
